Britpop legends Cast play Rochdale Feel Good Festival

Indie rock band Cast have been added to the line-up for Rochdale Feel Good Festival this summer.

The band, fronted by John Power (a former member of iconic indie group The La’s), will play the main stage by Rochdale Town Hall on Saturday 18 August.

Britpop heavyweights Cast released three top ten albums in the 90’s -  ‘All Change’ became the biggest selling album of all time for Polydor Records, ‘Mother Nature Calls’ went platinum and ‘Magic Hour’ reached number 6 in 1999.

Their debut single ‘Finetime’ hit the top 20 in 1995 and was followed by a stack of UK chart hits and crowd favourites including ‘Alright’, ‘Sandstorm’, ‘Flying’, ‘Walkaway,’ ‘Free Me’, ‘Guiding Star’, ‘Live the Dream’ and ‘Beat Mama’.

In 2012 the bands original line-up reunited for ‘Troubled Times’ – an album full of the anthemic and melodic songs they have been loved for.  In 2015 Cast celebrated the 20th anniversary of their classic ‘All Change’ album with sold out shows at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.  Last year they released their latest album ‘Kicking Up The Dust’ and completed a sell-out UK tour as special guests to Shed Seven.

Cast join previously announced headliners Feeder for Rochdale Feel Good Festival on Saturday 18 August.  The event, in its 11th year promises another showcase of top class entertainment, food and culture. There will be live music across indoor venues, a main stage against the backdrop of the town hall, a quality food and drink court plus lots of entertainment and activities for all the family around the town hall square.

Councillor Janet Emsley cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture at Rochdale Borough Council said: “The first two acts on our main stage line-up are amazing and we will be announcing more in the coming weeks. 2018 is going to be another year to remember.”

Ben Boothman, owner of main stage sponsor The Flying Horse Hotel said: “There’s already a lot of early excitement around the festival and I think to have Cast confirmed for the main stage will only add to this.  We’re going to be treated to some classic Britpop from Cast and there are tracks on their latest album that are every bit as good as those they put out in the mid nineties.  It’s easy to see what Noel Gallagher meant when he once described seeing Cast as a religious experience.”

The festival is funded by the council together with sponsorship from The Flying Horse Hotel, Premier Kia, The Wellington and other local businesses.
