Rochdale Feel Good Festival will be tickling tastebuds and filling the town with live music this month.
Last-minute preparations are under way for this year’s event in Rochdale town centre on Saturday 18 August headlined by rock band Feeder.
Organiser Rochdale Borough Council is promising the best in live music, food and family entertainment. Councillor Janet Emsley, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture said:
“Each year this wonderful festival attracts thousands of people into town to enjoy fabulous live music, food, arts and family fun. I hope people will show their support for the festival and our town centre by coming along - and bring your friends! We have another fabulous programme of music and entertainment, served up alongside a superb food and drink village, accompanied by lots of other attractions including our impressive Family Zone.”
From 12pm the main stage will be headlined by rock band Feeder, alongside Britpop heroes Cast, The Uplifters, The Curious Incident, Emily Faye, Last Race Home, VALA, The Alchemists, Scuttlers, High Wyre, [ K S R], Anna Pancaldi and KAZE. Indoor venues including The Baum and The Flying Horse Hotel will also be hosting local acts.
The food and drink village will be open from 11am – 11pm alongside a pop up garden, seating area and over fifteen traders selling delicious dishes, fantastic street food and much more.
The Family Zone is supported by Arts Council England National Lottery funding, in partnership with Link4Life and will be open from 11am to 5pm. Just like the rest of the festival, admission is free and no tickets are required. Activities and shows will include: The Actual Reality Arcade - a life-sized interactive game zone for all ages, inspired by classic arcade games. Watch out for the Urban Astronaut – a bold physical theatre performance exploring the environmental issue of air pollution featuring an astronaut suspended up to 20ft in the air. Bicycle Ballet will present their ‘Strictly Cycling’ show - an improvisational, visual performance and choreography inspired by flash mobs, dada-ism, everyday cycling experiences and the great British weather! A team of dancers from the appropriately named ‘The Dance we Made’ will be re-creating new moves based on their experiences at the Rochdale summer festival and performing them live. The Family Zone will also feature street theatre and live performances from local groups including Skylight Circus and Cartwheel Arts.
For those travelling into Rochdale from Manchester Victoria and Oldham, Metrolink runs a direct service to Rochdale town centre which is only a one-minute walk from the festival site.
Danny Vaughan, TfGM’s Head of Metrolink, the official festival partner added:
“Metrolink is proud to continue our partnership with Rochdale Feel Good Festival, a great celebration that offers something for the whole family. The festival is just one minute from the Rochdale Town Centre stop, meaning Metrolink is one of the best ways to get to the event.”
Council pay and display car parks are also located across the town centre and the first 3 hours are free. There is unlimited FREE parking on Saturday, 18 August 2018 at Hopwood Hall College Car Park, a 5 minute walk from the festival. The car park is open all day, but closes after midnight at 12.30am. Any vehicles left overnight can be collected between 9.30am-1.30pm on Sunday, 19 August 2018.
The festival is funded by the council together with sponsorship from The Flying Horse Hotel, Premier Kia, The Wellington gastro pub, Metrolink, O2 Rochdale, The Royal Toby Hotel and other local businesses including The Medicine Tap and Rochdale Town Centre Management.
