Tetrosyl, the company behind world-famous car care products like T-Cut, CarPlan and Carlube, are ready to call Rochdale home after spending £3m sprucing up their new base in Newgate House.
The eight-storey town centre building, which once housed Rochdale’s tax office, had been empty for almost a decade before Tetrosyl selected it as the location for its new head office earlier this year.
The ambitious refurbishment means the company can now welcome clients from around the world, including China, India and Russia, into the heart of Rochdale.
Chairman Peter Schofield, said: “We regularly meet our international clients at our head office and I’m really proud to bring them here. The building and its location were ideal for us and the town centre is changing. You can see the investment going in, the roads are getting better, the river has been re-opened, the tram is in the town centre. The atmosphere and uniqueness of the town is coming back through. We’ve spent a substantial amount of money investing in this building because we wanted to bring something really special to Rochdale.”
Around 120 staff work at the town centre site, with 33 of those being employed from within the borough since the move.
The company’s distribution facility is also set to open in Royle Barn Road, Castleton, early in the new-year, following its move from Oldham, bringing the total number of jobs brought into Rochdale to 600.
Leader of Rochdale Borough Council, Cllr Richard Farnell, said: “It’s remarkable to see what Tetrosyl have done with this run-down building and it’s clear that our £250m town centre regeneration programme is attracting businesses looking to invest a substantial amount of money in our borough.
“Some of our residents have already got jobs here and I’m sure surrounding business, like cafes and shops, will benefit from Tetrosyl staff going into town and spending their money with them. We also receive substantial business rates revenue from Tetrosyl, which means more money to pay for services.”
Tetrosyl is looking to hire more staff in the coming year, with priority being given to Rochdale residents.
Mr Schofield added: “We will recruit all our staff from here in Rochdale unless there’s a very good reason not to, and we’ve have already linked up with Hopwood Hall college, who have an apprenticeships programme. Over the next year we’ll be looking to expand into even more markets, so there’s a lot to look forward to.”
