The countdown to Rochdale Feel Good Festival 2016 has begun with the confirmation of the dates for this year’s two-day summer event. The festival will return on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 August, confirmed organisers Rochdale Borough Council, who are promising another incredible showcase of entertainment, food and culture.
The festival – now in its ninth year and the biggest free music and food festival in the north west - will include live music across indoor venues, a main stage against the backdrop of the town hall and Stage 2 - the community stage. Chefs and food producers will host live cooking demonstrations throughout the event which will also include the popular food market.
Councillor Janet Emsley, Cabinet Member for Culture, Health and Wellbeing said: “We have already signed some superb acts as we look to build on the success of the festival which attracts thousands of people into the town centre to enjoy fabulous live music, food, arts and entertainment. It’s an unmissable couple of days for friends and family to enjoy, and as always there will be big names and the best in emerging talent. The festival helps to create a real buzz and is a fantastic showcase for both local residents and visitors. Every year we try to give visitors something new and this year will not disappoint!”
Performers will be announced in the coming weeks. Previous acts have included The South, Toploader, Scouting for Girls, The Feeling, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Martha and the Vandellas, Badly Drawn Boy and The Lightning Seeds. Celebrity chefs have included Ainsley Harriott, Rachel Allen, Gino D’Acampo, Kevin Woodford and Rochdale’s Andrew Nutter.
Once again a local band will get chance to open the main stage on the Saturday. Last year Rochdale alternative rock band ‘The Hotspur Press’ got a superb reception. The competition will be launched in April with local acts encouraged to apply to win the coveted slot.
