Future businessmen and women can take a stall on Rochdale market for just £5 as part of national Love your Local Market fortnight.
The event, which celebrates the market tradition up and down the country, runs from 14 to 28 May and encourages shoppers to go and find out what’s on offer at their local market.
And budding entrepreneurs who fancy trying their hand at selling goods can rent a stall for just £5 a day throughout the fortnight.
Anyone selling goods which are not currently represented on the market, such as crockery, meat, homewares and gifts, can take advantage of the offer to test trade in a traditional market setting.
Anyone who would like to have a go at selling is advised to get in there quickly, as stalls are selling fast, with six traders already signed up.
Among the love your local maket fortnight traders are the Rochdale Hornets, who will be setting up shop on Saturday 17, with a ticket offer on their Halifax game as well as merchandise. Keep fit enthusiasts can pop in on Thursday 15 and 22 to browse the health and fitness products being sold on the Ladies Only Gym stall.
Up and coming designer Jessica Sammon will be selling a stunning selection of prints on greetings cards and homewares throughout the fortnight.
And bird lovers can also buy membership and merchandise inspired by nature when the RSPB takes a stall on Friday 23.
The only day potential traders won’t be able to set up shop will be flea market day on Tuesday.
Rochdale Town Centre Manager, Debbie O’Brien, said: “M&S started off as a penny bazaar stall in Leeds market back in 1884. Michael Marks then met Tom Spencer and the rest is history. This just shows how far you can go with a business idea and a market stall.
“We’ve got a proud market tradition in Rochdale and we’d love new stallholders to come on board and join the many established traders, even if just for a day. The cut price we’re offering during Love Your Markets fortnight is the perfect opportunity for them to have a go.”
Anyone who would like to take a stall on one or more of the days during Love Your Markets fortnight can contact the Markets Manager, Jeff Charlesworth on 07812 231 091 orjeff.charlesworth@rochdale.gov.uk
Rochdale market will be open as normal during Love Your Market Fortnight. The opening times for the normal stalls are 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday with the exception of Tuesday which is flea market day.
