Rochdale first – as festival goes plastic free

A popular food festival will be the first in the borough to be plastic free when it is held in Rochdale Town Hall Square this month. Organisers of Street Eat have banned single use plastics at the event on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May, with all traders using environmentally friendlier paper alternatives instead.

On the menu: Wilmott Dixon renew support for Rochdale’s Street Eat feast

Building and construction company Wilmott Dixon are supporting this month’s Street Eat festival, which returns to Rochdale Town Hall Square on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May. The company, which is developing the new £80 million Rochdale Riverside retail and leisure scheme in the town centre have renewed their support for the event, having also sponsored the two day festival last year.

New grass verge scheme is the bees knees

Grass verges across Rochdale are going to look a bit different this summer as a scheme set to boost bees, butterflies and small insects gets under way. This year, 15 sites across the borough have been chosen as part of a scheme to host pollinator friendly informal flowering lawns or clover verges. Chosen sites include Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Sandy Lane and Hollingworth Road.

Strawberry Garden reopens

Strawberry Gardens, which sells a variety of high quality fruit, vegetables, spices and herbs has now officially opened its new premises within the previously vacant unit located on the junction of Yorkshire Street and Cheetham Street. This family run business have been operating within Rochdale Town Centre for over 25 years and the new shop which opens seven days a week sells everything from broccoli and carrots to exotic grapefruit.
